The Enemy From Within

The enemy from within
do you know him
cunning and slipping
always out of your grasp

Have you met him lately
or like those many times
he pushed into
the inner circle of fools

You hear his voice so lovely
coaxing you stately
he is only the devil that exists
but how can I resist?

Love him, hate him
day and night, with all my heart
sometimes I wonder if i can convince him
to become a saint of honor after all

and every time I think to myself
I have finally learned my game
but every time I listen to him
he has put me in trouble without failing

I keep telling myself
I'll stop chasing him
wait now, is it the other way round
why is he so hard to understand

I ask many
how can I strangle him
it's very simple they say
now, there's a shocker i say

It's the universal truth they tell me
some how they fail to convince me
he is me it finally dawns on me
and in an instant he is one with me
there's no more anger just the peace
what else do i need from this life at ease

Beacon of light

My heart is faulty
my steps are weary
and my eyes are watery
but why cant I see my path clearly

so many lose ends
tugging on my heart
pulling in thousand directions
seems like they are all at war

setting fire to the center
burning my heart and matter
blinded by the tongues of desire
when will I see the end of this mire

seems like an eternal fight
searching for a beacon of light
and his hand along the right path
will I ever see past my short sight

one step at a time, I'm told
to reach his side paroled
there's still hope in that word
why my heart refuses to behold

searching high and low
until my legs become jello
with distraction echoed to each day
I'm set out to find the end to this dismay

A NEW START

Like a ocean wave,
Time has washed away all the desire.
Like a pouring cloud,
time has emptied feelings abound.

I thought it was forever,
the sweet November and December.
I guess I was wrong,
I guess I knew all along, all along.

The dream has finally broken,
To the morning light shone.
I didn't even realize,
the slipping hand's silent goodbyes.

There's new battle,
behind every door handle.
All I can think is,
your missing back at my back,
There's no way to turn back,
From here on,
it's only forward.

Lost in the mantle of fight,
I'm sure I'm gonna come out alright.
It's new start, to the part that I have to fight.
The time ticks along
the cyclic clock round.
Oh its a fresh start,
To the morning bright.

The Look West Saga....

Is it alright to hug your opposite sex friends and casually give a peck on the cheek when we meet them? What do our elders think of celebrating valentine's day? when did we start identifying Rachel as our friend? When did we start going out for 'Girls night outs'? How did we come to accept that even women can smoke or when they drink?

What I am trying to say is the presence of western culture in Indian society is undeniable. Over the decades it has slowly crept up into our once tightly nit web of traditions and beliefs. How did it come to this day when we suddenly realize the enormity of it? How did it start? Did it start when Mr.Nehru made 'Jana Gana Mana' our national anthem instead of 'Vande Mataram' to please his white skin counterparts?

There are I think two ways this could have happened. One is the necessity and eagerness to please our western counterparts by understanding their cultures and beliefs like our Mr. Nehru. The other is to simply try to follow them because it is considered high societal and modern. It may even be safe to say that our understanding of the word 'Modern' is synonym of 'western culture'.

What we believe as western ways of life were present in our society albeit in different forms or under different names or even in the dark. But the major change is our acceptance towards all those things.. One example of it is drinking in women. There are sections of our society in which both sexes have been consuming alcohol from generations when it was considered for our women folk a must to be teetotalers. Though the shorts and mini skirts or even the bikinis were present in the early decades, they were not as prevalent as they are today. Today western clothing is the normal attire. It has even come to the point where if you don't wear western clothing you are simply not modern enough. What were once considered taboo are totally acceptable today.

The key role for this change has to be given to the television. Don't we all like to watch Rachel of Friends rather than 'Tulsi of Kyonki...' Don't we all adore Hollywood actors and actresses forgetting our very own dream girls of Bollywood.

Ignoring all the needs, wantings and reasons for obsession to follow them I would like to analyze where this obsession would lead us, what would be the end effect on our Indian society. Is it really true that by trying to follow two different belief systems we are confused and strayed? Where does our moral compass lie in deciding good and bad?

What do you think? Do let me know.

Froyo - The Frozen Yogurt

The Frozen Yogurt
After my diet I am feeling great but I need to maintain this balance without feeling restricted towards food. In order to keep everything balanced and keep my sweet tooth satisfied I decided to try out the frozen yogurt and I am glad I did. Its wonderful, its tasty and its healthy not to mention super easy. What more can a girl ask for :)

Yogurt is one of the super foods. Its contains the goodness of calcium and it packs a punch of probiotics. Frozen yogurt along with some fresh fruits can replace our daily dose vitamins and calcium supplements.

Froyo is very simple, all natural and flexible recipe. You can play around with just about anything in the recipe, be it the texture or your choice of fruit or the kind of garnishing. Play around with this recipe and I guarantee you, you'll never get enough of it. So lets start with this amazing desert.

Ingredients you need,
Yogurt
Any fresh fruit
Dry fruits
Vanilla extrac t- 3 drops
Honey
Cream(optional)

We preferably need a little thicker yogurt to make this recipe, sort of the consistency of greek yogurt. If you do not have greek yogurt or you do not know what is greek yogurt, do not worry. If you have a regular curd just hang it for 20-25 minutes in a muslin cloth and you are good to go.

Once you have your yogurt ready, put all the ingredients in a blender except the dry fruits and blend it until smooth. when I saw the ripe strawberries at the super market I just could not resist, so I am using strawberries  as base and pomegranate seeds for garnishing today. Once the mixture is blended taste for the sweetness. Once the yogurt is frozen the sweetness seems to be reduced so always use some extra honey even if you feel the yogurt is sweet enough for you at the room temperature.

Now all we have to do is freeze it for couple of hours. When you are ready to serve take out the frozen yogurt and blend for 5 seconds. This helps break those ice crystals and smooths out the texture. Garnish with dry fruits. You might also like to garnish it with muesli as it gives an interesting combination of crunchy and smooth textures in your mouth. You can check my home made muesli recipe here.

Like I have told you before, play around with the recipe. You can even include you kids in the process, ask them to chose which fruit goes in and which dry fruit should be used for garnishing. I am sure they will be happy from the making to till finishing it. :)

BTW Happy Valentine's Day.
